20,000 STEPS
Updated: Oct 1, 2021
Everyday, my goal is to get in 20,000 steps in before I go to bed. Yes, 20K steps! Typically, I get in 8-10K steps in during my workouts. My workouts consist of high intensity training on the treadmill, on the bicycle and or slinging weights. My go to sites for my workouts are the Peloton app and Heather Robertson. I downloaded the Peloton app on my phone a few years ago and it has changed my life! The app has amazing instructors offering strength, running, walking, yoga, cardio, spinning and many more classes from 5 minutes up to an hour. Then I found Heather Robertson on YouTube and she is a "get err done" type of gal...she sets the timer and you WERK. No talking, No wailing...Now, most people struggle to get in 3,000 to 4,000 steps...not judging because I know there may be many different reasons why one's mobility is restricted, believe me I can relate. Just remember, when you get started, some activity is better than no activity! Because I have been unhealthy in my life, once I started including more activity in my life, I significantly reduced the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and depression. When I first bought a Fitbit watch, my goal was 10K steps. When I saw I was getting more than 10K steps in a day, I elevated the goal to 20K. With all this being said, I average anywhere from 15K-25K per day. It really depends on what's going on. I remember one of the days I hit around 25K and it was a combination of an hour long run on the treadmill and walking a few miles picking up trash and debris on a flightline. My goal is 20K steps per day. When I fall short of my goal, I ask myself is it my mindset, perspective, expectation, effort, acceptance, company or a blend of these that needs to change. In this case, it's definitely the effort. While it is true that falling short of some goals equals failures, like making sure an airplane has enough fuel to get from one destination to the next, there are many instances where falling short still means you have made significant achievements. Even though, I may only reach 15-19,999K steps per day, it is still worth celebrating! 20K steps is motivating me to move towards being as healthy as I possibly can. You may not reach your destination, but each step along the path is worth reflecting upon and appreciating. Look forward and create big goals that can be achieved one step at a time and enjoy the journey! Tomorrow I will put more effort in and get after SLAYin' my step goal! #SLAY
