What Are You Talking About?
I remember the very first time that I got on stage and introduced the word “SLAY” as my guiding philosophy and vision to hundreds of people on the base.
Initially, I heard lots of chuckles, laughter,
and mocking in the crowd but I kept on talking (as if I didn’t hear them) about why I chose the word and what each letter stood for.
So many people were looking at me like I had 5 heads🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Immediately after I got back to my office, I had a senior leader come to my office after I introduced it, to “inquire” about the word because they still couldn’t understand what I was talking about🙄
I AGAIN explained to them that it was a simplified way to focus on what we need to do to execute the mission and take care of our people.
If we S-stay ready to be ready, L-lead out loud, create A-a sense of family within and around us, and have a positive mental attitude centered around Y-you are built to last, we can accomplish just about anything!
Sometimes when you’re speaking from a senior leadership position about what you’re passionate about, you’re thinking no one is even listening, no one is going to get it or no one even cares.
But I guarantee if you believe in it, show that you believe in it, and stay consistent, other people will believe in it too!!!
So when my brother (from another mother💖) and fellow friend Chief Master Sergeant Caleb Vaden sent me a pic of the patch he had made during his deployment and put it on his backpack, I knew that it was becoming a MOVEMENT!
How are you inspiring the people you’re leading?
Keep on SLAYin’ until you can’t SLAY no more 🔥
