I Was Hired as Her Stylist--But the Transformation Went Far Beyond Clothing

Last year, one of my great friends and sister-in-arms, Gloria Dent, reached out with an unexpected opportunity. She asked whether I would consider serving as an image consultant for a CEO, mother, and wife who had made the decision to enter a congressional race.
At the time, I had recently become certified as an image consultant, and this was my first opportunity to apply those skills in a high-stakes political environment. What I thought would be a styling engagement quickly became something far more strategic: a front-row seat to leadership transformation under public scrutiny.
When we first met with Quincy Barbaree, the conversation wasn’t simply about wardrobe. It was about identity. How she wanted to be perceived. What her presence needed to communicate. And the level of leadership she was stepping into.

From the beginning, I understood that this work was not just about clothes, it was about communication at scale.
A political campaign operates at an accelerated tempo. Photoshoots, last-minute appearances, shifting schedules, and impromptu media moments, that require immediate alignment between image, message, and presence. There is no luxury of extended preparation. EVERYTHING IS REAL-TIME!
Initially, I experienced a level of adjustment to that environment. The pace was intense, and the expectations were uncompromising. But in that pressure, something familiar surfaced.
It mirrored the operational environments I had led in for decades in the military...where visibility is constant, timing is critical, and presence must be executed with precision regardless of circumstance.
That recognition changed everything.
I stopped trying to adapt to the environment and began operating from what I already knew: how to stabilize presence under pressure, how to align visual identity with leadership intent, and how to ensure execution remains clean even in motion.
That is when my role expanded beyond styling.
It became an image strategy in its highest form, translating leadership identity into visual authority.
Every detail began to carry meaning: color, silhouette, tone, and consistency across platforms. Not as fashion decisions, but as components of a larger leadership narrative...one that communicates trust, capability, and command under scrutiny.
As the campaign progressed, I also witnessed a TRANSFORMATION in my client.
In the early stages, she was transitioning from corporate executive to public political figure. While highly capable, there was a natural adjustment period as she navigated the demands of constant visibility. Public appearances required more intention, messaging was being refined, and the rhythm of a campaign demanded rapid adaptation.
Over time, that began to shift.
Her presence became more grounded, her communication more precise, and her confidence in front of cameras, audiences, and media platforms began to stabilize into consistency rather than effort.
Today, that evolution is UNMISTAKEABLE.

She moves seamlessly across podcasts, television appearances, community events, gala stages, and digital platforms with a unified presence. Her leadership identity is no longer being tested in visibility—it is being expressed through it.
She is no longer simply entering rooms. She is shaping the energy, direction, and narrative within them.
That transformation is the result of sustained alignment between identity, image, and presence under pressure.
And it is why this work matters.
Because when leaders step into high-visibility roles, their impact is not determined only by what they do, but by how consistently their presence communicates who they are becoming.
As for me, this experience clarified the essence of what I now do at the highest level: I work with accomplished women to become visible, credible, influential, and opportunity-ready so they can attract leadership positions, speaking engagements, media opportunities, clients, promotions, and greater impact.
Here is what my client shared in her own words:
“I just want to take a moment to say how truly grateful I am for you… Women like you uplift other women, help them believe in themselves, and inspire them to become the best version of who they are…”-Quincy Bareebe
To witness that kind of transformation in real time is not just rewarding—it is the confirmation of why this work exists.
