Wear Your "Own" Pink – Boldly Branding Yourself to Walk in Your Purpose After Service

MISSION BRIEFING: WHO ARE YOU AFTER SERVICE?

In the military, we wear our uniforms with pride...rank, ribbons, and insignia that speak for us before we even say a word. But what happens when the uniform comes off? Who are you beyond the service, beyond the mission, beyond the structured identity you've worn for years?

I learned the hard way that civilians don’t read DD-214s like we do. They don’t automatically recognize our leadership, discipline, and strategic expertise. We have to reintroduce ourselves to the world. And that starts with owning our enhanced personal brand.

SITREP: THE DANGER OF BLENDING IN

In the military, blending in keeps us in formation. It ensures discipline and unity. But in the civilian world, blending in makes you invisible. You can’t expect doors to open just because of your past service; YOU have to create your own opportunities by boldly standing out.

For years, I assumed my reputation alone would carry me. I thought my leadership experience would translate effortlessly into my next chapter.

WRONG.

I had to pivot and reposition myself, not as a veteran simply looking for the next step, but as a leader, expert, and brand worth recognizing.

WEAR YOUR OWN PINK: STAND OUT IN FORMATION

Wearing your "own" pink means:

✅ Owning your leadership beyond the rank – You were more than your title in uniform, and you are more than a job title now.

✅ Strategically positioning yourself – Your personal brand should command attention the way a decorated uniform does in a room.

✅ Walking in your purpose with confidence – No more waiting for orders. It’s time to lead your own mission.

✅ Elevating your personal style as a power move – Your wardrobe is an extension of your brand. Dressing with intention isn’t vanity—it’s strategy. Wear colors, fits, and styles that exude confidence and reinforce your authority. Your presence should speak before you do.

At the Pink and White Summit hosted by Ginger Miller, the CEO and Founder of the Women Veterans Interactive Foundation, I spoke about this very challenge—how too many women leave the military without a battle plan for their identity and career transition and when they're in the next chapter, they feel lost. It’s time to change that.

CALL TO ACTION: EXECUTE YOUR NEXT MOVE

You didn’t serve all those years just to fade into the background. You are a force. But does the world see it?

Your next mission is clear: Define your brand. Stand in your power. Wear your "OWN" pink and own every room you step into.
